The Petal cluster was funded by the School of Computational Science (SCS) and has been a major resource for Computational Evolutionary Biology (CEB) research in the SCS. The cluster provides a platform for developing and testing software, which is used to answer fundamental questions about the current diversity of life on earth. In particular, the software developed on this cluster is used for inferring evolutionary trees and population processes. For more details, see the following CEB web site: http://ceb.scs.fsu.edu/software.php

The hardware configuration consists of the following:

  • 1 head node configured with:
    • 4 Gigabytes of RAM
    • Dual AMD Opteron, Processor 246 - 2.0 GHz
    • 67 GB for home directories exported to compute nodes
    • 688 GB of scratch exported to computer nodes
    • Single Gigabit Ethernet interface
  • 39 compute nodes configured with:
    • 2 Gigabyte of RAM
    • Dual AMD Opteron, Processor 246 - 2.0 GHz
    • Approximately 40 GB of local disk space
    • Single Gigabit Ethernet interface
